Let me present the gardens of the Floresti Palace. Let me present the gardens of the Floresti Palace. It’s an amazing place, left to ruin, with such a rich past and an ambitious project. We visited last autumn, in the golden hour soft glow of a warm evening.⁠ .⁠ The palace in Floresti was supposed to be the greatest masterpiece built by Gheorghe Cantacuzino, a very wealthy man that lived in the 19th century, he was the mayor of Bucharest and even prime-minister at one point. The palace was called the Petit Trianon, as its plans were inspired directly by the two Trianon palaces at Versailles.⁠ .⁠ Building started in 1911, but the palace was never finished, and it was eventually looted and destroyed in both world wars, the communists had different facilities set up here and the locals robbed the building of any construction materials they could reuse. It really hurts to see the beauty of the outside decorations and to think of what might have become of the palace...⁠ .⁠ But let’s focus on its gardens. They were designed in a French style, with a water basin in front, which descended in several terraces, a water canal with several bridges, fountains, statues, and rare shrubs, all of them creating a harmonious and elegant feel. People of that time were comparing them to the Versailles gardens. Close to the palace, there was a huge water tower dating from around 1830, you can see it in my first photo. ⁠ .⁠ The domain is huge, about 150 hectares, and the park is open for strolls or events. I read that a restoration of the palace is planned, I certainly hope they will get the funds to do it, it’s such an impressive place. Can it get more Italian than this? 😍⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ This is the beautiful Torre Guinigi in Lucca, maybe the most famous sight in the Tuscan town. As usual, we prefer a view with the famous attraction in it, rather than the view from the attraction itself. So we climbed in Torre delle Ore to get this gorgeous shot.⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ Torre Guinigi was built in the 14th century by the Guinigi family as a status symbol. They used to serve meals on the rooftop, in the shade of the oak trees. So we have some news! 😁⁠⠀ We're expecting a So we have some news! 😁⁠⠀ We're expecting a baby!!! 😍👶🍼⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ I cannot even begin to tell you how excited and happy we are! It's a baby girl, she's due in July and we'll be naming her Mara! ♥️⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ So you see, we didn't have travel plans for this year anyway, how convenient 😂. We did plan to take a trip or two this Spring, but it wasn't possible. Oh well, what can you do? Our only trip with her in my belly is the one in Madrid in December, at least we got to do that. ☺️⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ I hope the lockdown will be over by July, otherwise, Alex won't be able to join me at birth or even to visit us in the hospital, since they only allow patients to enter now. We'll see how everything goes, I was really counting on him being there. Another amazing hidden gem, this time in Madrid. I Another amazing hidden gem, this time in Madrid. It's Casa Palazuelo, right next to Puerta del Sol on Calle Mayor, a major tourist hub, yet there were only two other people visiting!⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ I think it's an office building, not exactly a tourist attraction, but they let you enter for free to admire the gorgeous staircase! ♥️⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ In Romania, they extended the lockdown until May 15th, then maybe they will begin to gradually loosen up the restrictions. ⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ I wonder what life will look like this year. I guess that people will start traveling around their home, and take road trips to avoid crowded airports. Who knows when the borders for tourists will open anyway?!⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ I know for sure I am aching to go somewhere pretty, take photos, and enjoy the sunny days. I celebrated at home with Alex, my significant otter 🙈, and we baked a gluten-free carrot cake (the first cake I ever made!).
